I went to update my fat lite-on 360 to LT3.0 from LT2.0 today, When I connected everything and started up the 360 instantly I smelt a burning glue or plastic smell, turned everything off, looked over the set up the power drop and everything else. Things looked all in order(power drop was not contacting metal casing etc) but It was unnerving so I stopped.

Reassembled the 360, the burning smell is within the disk drive as well as the power drop. The 360 will turn on but the disk drive does not function in any way. I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar situation and if the power drops the most likely not functioning correctly.

I searched the forums, found little on this so maybe I'm a special case I'm just trying to avoid making bricks here anyone have any suggestions?

You plugged it in upside down or backwards.

The power drop? Because like I said nothing was incorrectly placed I've done this a dozen times and This is a first, Have you experienced this or how did you come to that conclusion? Not arguing just want to get a better idea.

Because I've been doing this for years, I'm a BETA tester for the Lizard, I'm an OP in the Lizard IRC and everyone that has the problem you described whether it be power drop, dongle, ck3, xtractor, w/e has plugged in the power upside down.

BTW if you plan on doing more Xboxs throw the power drop in the trash and get a better power supply that doesn't rely on the console for power. I highly recommend the XT3 but it is a bit expensive for the "hobbyist" so check out the Maximus power dongle. I have both, my dongle is close to 5 years old and has been amazing. Also the dongles design prevents you from accidentally plugging it in the wrong way and the XT3 has colored wires so you know which side is up.
I know you might not want to hear that you made a mistake but it happens, it's very common. The fix may be a simple as replacing the fuses around the MOSFET but you should probably expect to by a new drive. I hope you have the key saved somewhere or you will need the RGH to get it.
